GRAMMY® Award-winning conductor Cristian Măcelaru leads his own Orchestre National de France in the complete symphonic works of George Enescu (1881–1955), out on Deutsche Grammophon. Recorded in Paris, where the Romanian-born Enescu moved in his early teens, this collection including Enescu’s well-known pair of Romanian Rhapsodies (1901) and the composer’s three, rarely performed completed symphonies as a 3-CD set.

The Radio France Choir, the Orchestre National de France and Cristian Măcelaru perform the Olympic anthem

The Orchestre National de France, conducted by its musical director Cristian Măcelaru, the Maîtrise and the Choir of Radio France contributed to the prestige of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. More than 200 musicians from Radio France formations accompanied the route of the river parade followed by the whole world.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra names Cristian Mӑcelaru as next Music Director

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) has appointed conductor Cristian Mӑcelaru as the 14th Music Director in the Orchestra’s 129-year history, succeeding Louis Langrée. Mӑcelaru will begin his five-year term as Music Director in the 2024-25 season, serving as Music Director Designate in the first year of his term.

“In addition to his exceptional artistry, collaborative spirit and strong leadership of orchestras around the world, including in the United States, Cristian understands and embraces the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s vision to become the most relevant orchestra in America” said CSO Board Chair Dianne Rosenberg.

Harmonious Farewell: grand finale for “George Enescu” International Festival 26th edition
The “George Enescu” International Festival concluded its 26th edition on September 24th with a magnificent performance by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, led by conductor Klaus Makela, at the Palace Hall in Bucharest.

Cristian Măcelaru, the Artistic Director of the “George Enescu” Festival, expressed his satisfaction that the events offered superb music not only to the Romanian audience but also to audiences worldwide. He emphasized that Enescu’s presence was deeply felt throughout the festival, both in the music performed and the atmosphere.

For the first time together after winning the GRAMMY® Awards – Nicola Benedetti, Wynton Marsalis and Cristian Măcelaru.

The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, America’s longest running festival of new orchestral music, celebrates its 57th season, July 28 – August 11, 2019, with a remarkable women-centric season, featuring a series of relevant and forward-looking commissioned works.

This is the Festival’s third season with Music Director and Conductor Cristian Măcelaru at the helm, and the esteemed conductor continues to push the leading edge at Cabrillo. This year the Festival presents four commissioned works—three world premieres, two US premieres, and eight West Coast premieres.
