On June 19, 2020, Sony Classical Germany ➭ releases a new album ➭ of cello concerto performed by cellist Jan Vogler ➭ and conductor Cristian Măcelaru.

The album features the World Premiere of ‘Three Continents’, a unique collaborative work comprising three movements that celebrates the diversity of three composers from the United States, Germany and China across three generations: Nico Muhly (b. 1981), Sven Helbig (b. 1968) and Zhou Long (b. 1953). Commissioned by the Dresden Music Festival, the concerto was recorded with the WDR Sinfonieorchester from their performance at the 2019 Dresden Music Festival, where the work received its World Premiere.

‘Three Continents’ symbolizes many aspects that characterize our globalized community.

“The music on this recording deals with the role of artists within our society. ‘Three Continents’ is a commentary on the freedom of music as a global language that is yet passionately influenced by regional and cultural conditions.”
— Jan Vogler

Paired with ‘Three Continents’ is Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2, which Jan Vogler performs with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra.
